Teens and Their Mobile Phones

Have you ever wondered what teens were really using their mobile phones for? A recent study released by Pew Internet Research has shed light on average mobile phone use among American teens. This study includes not only information regarding how much teens use their mobile phones, but what they are using them for as well, such as: to go online, text and access social media sites. Perhaps not surprisingly, average mobile use varies greatly by age, and sexting seems to becoming more of an issue.

This is incredible!!! I would have never thought that 6% of kids actually email other kids. This blows my mind. There is also way texting going on than I thought.

I would say those numbers are astonishing, but if you take a quick walk through any mall, school, or park, you'll see kids of all ages on phones...lots of them. In Canada now, cell phones are illegal while driving in many places, not sure how this is translating internationally, but hopefully that 1 in 3 statistic decreases.

Edward Tufte. Stephen Few. Names that the designers of this pie chart clearly have never heard of.

It does add up to a whole pie, look at the colored lines outside the graph. The percentages are inclusive, eg. in the 33% of teenagers texting a 100 message a day, the 11% are included.

Wow I amazed by the percentage of 12 year olds using cellphones 35 percent.

Pie graphs can't be used to show different metrics. All of your percentages add up to more than a whole pie.

I think its a big worry when teens are texting or talking while driving. What's missing here are the number of teens using their mobile to access the web via a free wifi connection.
