We pulled 1000 of the most recent updates from Twitter that featured the term ‘Facebook’ in order to find out what people were saying about that ‘other’ social behemoth. It is noteworthy that these 1,000 tweets occurred in only 13 minutes, which gives you the bigger picture that Facebook is referenced on Twitter approximately 100,000 times per day! We then analyzed this data to show how Facebook was mentioned (and why people take to Twitter to discuss Facebook). It is definitely a testament of Twitter unique staying power that Facebook’s implementation of @friend messaging didn’t suddenly make the two services mutually exclusive, and furthermore that Twitter loyalists tweet constantly about their Facebook experience, share links on Twitter to Facebook pages as resources, and of course, some folks get their kicks by spamming the living daylights out of the bots that have accidentally followed their spambot with tweets about making money on Facebook.
